Soap is one of those day to day products we take for granted and we don’t even realize that the earliest recorded evidence of the production of soap dates back thousands of years to when the ancient Babylonians mixed together fats and ash to make the very first soap.

Nowadays art and chemistry come together in soapmaking. The essential idea of soap as we know it is based on this historic version but modern soapmakers work with specialized charts and computer programs to determine the correct proportions of ingredients. Variety of methods and designs are used to make soap. Often soap bars are designed in details and look more like small art pieces then traditional soap bars that our grandparents used to make at their homes.

At Peonies and Blossoms we use the old fashioned cold process soapmaking method. We make our soaps with great care in small batches and cure them for 4 to 6 weeks to get the best quality, natural and mild bars. Glycerin is a natural by-product of cold process soap that acts as a moisturizing agent which help prevent dry, itchy skin.

When you consider the amount of skin care products each of us uses in our lifetime things can get a little scary. Being aware of the ingredients you apply to your skin is crucial.
